How to Apply

Below are the requirements and steps to apply for a Master of Design and Master of Fine Arts. You may only submit an application for one program per intake. All steps must be completed in order for your application to be reviewed.

Review our academic eligibility requirements and make sure you meet them.

Apply online using the EducationPlannerBC Application Service.

You will only be able to select Emily Carr from the list of BC institutions during the application period, from September 19, 2024 to January 19, 2025.

In addition, submit your previous academic transcript(s) and/or English language test score on the application portal. NOTE: Document upload will not be available on EPBC until September 27, 2024. If you apply through EPBC prior to this date, you must send your transcript(s) and documents to masters@ecuad.ca

A non-refundable application fee is required for all graduate applications.

You may only apply to one graduate program at Emily Carr per intake year.

Submit a portfolio and supporting material online through Slideroom.

You will be able to send in your portfolio and supporting documents to Emily Carr during the application period, from September 19, 2024 to January 19, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered. Note that there is typically a grace period on Slideroom if the application deadline falls on a weekend that will allow you to continue and submit a saved application up until the first weekday following the deadline (i.e., if the deadline falls on a Saturday, you will be able to submit up until Monday). You will not be able to start a new portfolio submission during the grace period.

We offer one yearly intake into all graduate programs. Both Master of Design and Master of Fine Arts degrees begin in Fall.

September 19 | Applications Open

  • EducationPlannerBC Application Service opens to accept online applications.


    • NOTE: Document upload will not be available on EPBC until September 27. If you apply through EPBC prior to this date, you must send your transcript(s) and documents to masters@ecuad.ca.

    • SlideRoom opens to accept online portfolio and supporting documents.

    January 19 | Applications Close

    The deadline to apply and submit your portfolio and supporting documents online.

    April 30 | Admissions Decisions Sent

    Emily Carr University admission decisions are shared with all graduate applicants via email.

    Variable – two weeks after receiving a Letter of Admission | Deadline to Pay Your Deposit

    The deadline to pay your deposit and secure your place in the program is within two weeks after receiving your letter of admission via email. Further details are included in said email.

    August 1 | Additional or In-Progress Documents

    All relevant final educational documents are due, as requested directly through the admissions process by the University.

    All application results are sent via email by April 30.

    If you’ve been accepted, you will be asked to secure your place in the program by paying a non-refundable deposit within two weeks after receiving a Letter of Admission.
